This title suffers deeply from "SOS Syndrome" (same old shit). Basically put, you've got Demon Attack, Galaxian, and maybe even Meteoric Shower thrown in for good measure here. The graphics are mediocre with very little attention given to detail. The setting is outer space as you might have guessed. An attempt was made at a planetary backround but not a very good one at that. You've got your standard fighter ship at the bottom of the screen shooting at the aliens that show up in a WAY too Demon Attack-like fashion. But what's this?? At the top of the screen you have a SECOND fighter ship that just cries out "Hey look! I'm REALLY an original game"! Both your ships shoot simultaneously and their shots meet in the middle of the screen giving the illusion of a wall of gunfire. An Illusion is a very accurate description in that I found this firing technique to be even less effective than your standard one ship at the bottom of the screen setup. Challenge can be one facet of gameplay that is present but only because it's so hard to hit the bad guys for some reason. On the second level I was left with one alien to kill for what seemed like 17 hours because despite my barrage of fire, he just kept effortlessly passing through until my fuel ran out and I lost my ship. I think I'll go play a little Galaxian to wash the taste of this thing out of my mouth. What's that? You're not supposed to play with your mouth? Ooops! :) |
