Making CD Soundtracks from
Redbook Audio Games

by Ken "Melf" Horowitz

Any audio ripping program can be used. I use Roxio CD Creator, myself. All you essentially need to do is the following:

These steps are for those with a CDR-DVD Combo only. If you have more than one tray, you can copy directly from disc to disc.

Using Roxio Easy CD Creator:

  1. Place the game CD in the CD tray and open the program.
  2. Select File-->New CD Project-->Music CD
  3. Select the CD as the source file.
  4. Click on the track(s) you want and then click on "convert."
  5. Select where you want to save the file. You can also change the track title if you like.

Repeat the above steps for all the tracks you want from each CD, then:

  1. In "Select Source Files," choose the file where all your tracks are saved.
  2. click "add" for each one.
  3. Insert a blank CD into the CD tray and hit "record." Choose your write speed (slower the speed, the fewer the errors).
  4. Start Recording!

Using Nero Burning ROM 6:

Nero is a bit more complicated, but works just as well.

  1. Place the game CD in the CD tray and open the program.
  2. Click on File-->New-->Audio CD-->New (upper right-hand corner)

If you have more than one CD tray, then do the followiing. If not, go to step B3.

A. More than One CD Tray

  1. In the "File Browser" column, select the CD tray as your source. New columns should open up on the right. Right click on the track you want and select "Copy to Compilation." The track will be passed to the open area on the left. Do this for each track you want from each CD.
  2. Click on "Recorder"-->"Burn Compilation"
  3. Choose your write speed and method and then click burn.

You now have a mixed soundtrack CD!

B. CDR/DVD Combo (Only One Tray)

  1. Click on "Extras"-->"Save Files." Nero will automatically select all the tracks. Click on them to deselect.
  2. Click on the track you want to save.
  3. Choose your output file format (how you want to save it), and the path (where you want to save it).
  4. Click "Go." The track will be saved to where you specified.

Repeat steps B3-B6 for all the tracks you want from each CD.

  1. In "File Browser", choose the folder where you saved all the tracks.
  2. Right click on the track you want and select "Copy to Compilation." Repeat for all the tracks you want.
  3. In the "File Browser" column, select the CD tray as your source. New columns should open up on the right. Right click on the track you want and select "Copy to Compilation." The track will be passed to the open area on the left. Do this for each track you want from each CD.
  4. Click on "Recorder"-->"Burn Compilation"
  5. Choose your write speed and method and then click burn.

Now you have a mixed soundtrack CD!
